Shakespeare
"King Lear", Cascais Experimental Theater
This is my contribution to the City Daily Photo theme day:
National Days (3): Saint George's Day (England)
National Days (3): Saint George's Day (England)
I could have chosen a photo of the São Jorge (St. George) Castle in Lisbon to post today, but instead I decided to make a tribute to England itself and what better than William?

Global Warming: Invaders
Someone's yard at Carcavelos
First we had the flying African Cockroach, then we had the Asian Beetle which is killing our Palm Trees. The Dengue Mosquito was recently found in Madeira Island and last summer our beaches were invaded by the super venomous Portuguese Man O'War (or Blue Bottle), a jellyfish-like marine cnidarian usually found in Central America. Now there's the Asian Wasp destroying beehives and killing all the bees.
I don't know if the insect shown above is a bee or a wasp, but I have never seen such a 'thing' in Portugal before.

Survivor
Rebelva, Carcavelos
I think it's pretty amazing how some old humble houses like this one have not yet been swallowed by the urban jungle that surrounds them. This shot seems to have been taken at a lost village somewhere in the countryside, but it was not. This is a busy street, actually.

Whoever tried to 'restore' the tiled wall has not had much success. What a patch! :-)

National Archive of Torre do Tombo
The archive is one of the oldest institutions in Portugal, since its installation in one of the towers of the castle in Lisbon, occurring during the reign of Fernando I (1378). It was moved from the National Palace of São Bento to the new building in 1990.

Invalids' Alley
As you can see, there's a way out at the end so it's not an alley anymore but the name of this very old narrow passageway at Cascais was kept the same.
P.S. According to Dave's comment (thank you, Dave!) this is called alley in the USA. In Portugal the word beco means a street with no exit, otherwise we call it travessa (lane).

Zebra...
Lisbon Zoo
A little tribute to the animal whose name was given to millions of pedestrian crossings around the world. This is my contribution to the City Daily Photo April theme day: Pedestrians Crossing.
